A group of armed men gang-raped a 12-year-old girl in northeastern Takhar province of Afghanistan, the second such incident reported in a span of two days.
According to the family of the victim, a group of armed men stormed into their house in Yangi Qala district and kidnapped their child.
Local police officials are saying that the child was found after six days from a jungle and a suspect was arrested in connection to the abduction and gang-rape incident.
The officials further added that the alleged perpetrator has confessed to his crime and a search operation has been launched to detain the remaining perpetrators.
This comes as a 3-year-old girl was gang-raped by a group of three men in Rostaq district of Takhar province two days ago.
According to the local police officials, the 3-year-old child was abducted by the group while she was playing in a garden and was repeatedly raped by the group.
The sexual abuse and rape of children have been rampant in Afghanistan, with government survey showing 65 rape case recorded in six provinces where child rape happens more frequently.
The survey covered incidents recorded between March and September this year where incidents on children as young as 1-year-old to 13-year-old were reported raped.
